Workplace imageGUCA offers safety, educational and regulatory training courses throughout the state which includes: NPDES, Damage Prevention, Competent Person Excavation, Competent Person Confined Space Entry, Utility Manager License Exam Review, ATSSA Flagging Program and much more.

Our training is open to anyone who needs to meet safety and regulatory requirements in the construction industry.

We provide discounts to members of the association. If you need company-wide training, we can come to you. You may find it more economical to join GUCA to receive the discounted class rates. Click here for information regarding GUCA membership.

Training Classes

Competent Person Excavation (CPE)

This 8-hour course is certified by the Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board and meets part of the 12 hour requirement for the Utility Manager License and Utility Foreman Certification. OSHA requires that you have a competent person on site while workers are present and the excavation is open.

Competent Person Confined Space Entry (CSE)

This 7-hour course is certified by the Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board and meets 7 of the 12 hour requirement for the Utility Manager License and the Utility Foreman Certification. This course is designed to train owners, project managers, foremen, and safety personnel on the hazards associated with confined space entry. It covers the techniques, methods, and equipment used to ensure a safe entry. OSHA requires a competent person on site when employees enter a confined space.

Competent Person OSHA Silica Standard

This 4-hour course provides a comprehensive review of OSHA’s new silica standard and training on the health effects of silica exposure and practical steps companies can take to protect workers from the hazards of silica exposure.

National Safety Council CPR/First Aid/AED

This 6-hour hands on course will cover the following topics: Recognize a medical emergency; handle breathing and cardiac emergencies; act appropriately and effectively and sustain life until professional help arrives, prevent disease transmission and identify and care for bleeding, sudden illness and injuries. OSHA requires someone on site that is certified in CPR/First Aid/Automated External Defibrillator procedures unless a clinic or hospital is within 4 minutes of the job site.

PSC Approved Damage Prevention to Mitigate a Fine

This 4-hour course provides an overview of the contractor's responsibilities regarding the Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act (GUFPA) including how to file a PSC Complaint and respond to a PSC Notice of Probable Violation.

Worksite Utility Coordination Supervisor (WUCS)

This 4-hour course provides an overview of the contractor's responsibilities regarding the Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act (GUFPA) and what is required to comply with the GDOT utility locate contract requirements. An emphasis is placed on the Large Project Ticket Procedures.

Locating & Marking Underground Pipeline Facilities

This 8-hour course will discuss basic theory of locating through Conductive and Inductive methods with hands on training needed to ensure that each participant leaves with the knowledge to apply this practice in the field.

ATSSA Flagging

This 4-hour nationally recognized flagging training course is accepted by the Georgia Department of Transportation and covers the uniform flagging procedures established by the Georgia Department of Transportation for utility and highway construction.

Utility Manager Licensing Exam Review

This 8-hour course will help you prepare for the Utility Manager Licensing Exam.  This course covers topics relevant to the Construction Industry Licensing Board Utility Manager Licensing Exam, including a mock exam.

NPDES 1A Course & Exam

This 8-hour State certified NPDES Level 1A (Blue Card) Course is for Contractors, Builders, Site Superintendents, Grading and Utility Contractors, Developers, and Monitoring Consultants involved with land disturbing activities over one acre. This course will give an overview of the NPDES permits issued by Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

NPDES 1A Recertification (In Person)

This 4-hour State certified recertification course is for individuals involved in land disturbing activities over one acre. This course is required to recertify your NPDES Level 1A (Blue Card) which expires every three years.

ONLINE COURSES: NPDES 1A & 1B Recertification

GUCA in partnership with the Covenant Group of Georgia  is now offering ONLINE NPDES Level 1A (Blue Card) and 1B (Red Card) recertification courses which expire every three (3) years. This is an approved course by GSWCC.

NPDES 1B Course & Exam

This two-day State certified NPDES Level 1B (Red Card) Course is for Regulatory Enforcement Inspectors and individuals contracted to perform regulatory work. This course covers the role of the Inspector to help ensure job site compliance and what types of enforcement action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the NPDES Permits, erosion and sediment control in Georgia.

OSHA 10 Hour Construction Basic Safety

This 10-hour basic safety construction course is authorized by the USDOL and covers electrical safety, excavation and trenching safety, fall protection, fire prevention and protection, hand and power tool safety, hazard communication, heavy equipment safety, personal protective equipment, recordkeeping, and OSHA’s focused inspection initiative.

Class Terms and Conditions

1. Due to certification requirements, registration and payment must be received in advance for class participation. Class confirmation will only be sent to those who have paid. Your payment secures your seat in class.

2. The registration fee is fully refundable up to five (5) business days prior to the class. If you do not show up or fail to cancel your registration, the registration fee is non-refundable. Exception includes NPDES classes which require ten (10) business days prior to class to request a refund or move to another class.

3. Substitutes may be submitted by paid registrants if GUCA is notified in advance.

4. Any additions or walk-ins to class on the day of instruction will be accepted if the class is not full and when accompanied by the registration form and when

cash or online payment is used as payment for the class. Checks will not be accepted on the day of class.

5. All check payments must be received ten (10) days prior to class otherwise cash or credit card can be used for payment.

6. GUCA reserves the right to cancel classes due to low registration. You will be refunded the class registration fee amount due to GUCA class cancellation when a written refund request is received.

7. Some classes may include a book or observation fee. These fees must be paid when registering for those classes.

  1. GUCA accepts checks, cash, and most major credit cards for payment of classes and events.

  2. CLASS TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Please see Class Terms and Conditions when registering for any GUCA safety or education class.

  3. Please see the specific event registration form for Events Terms and Conditions when registering for any GUCA event.

  4. PARTIAL PAYMENT: Partial payment for any class or event does NOT guarantee confirmation of the class or event. All fees are due at the time of registration.

  5. REFUNDS: All refund requests, no matter how payment is made, shall be in writing and submitted to GUCA. Please see terms and conditions for classes or events PRIOR to asking for a refund. NO SHOWS for any class or event WILL NOT receive a refund. No refunds will be issued that are NOT within the refund timeline. Refunds will be in the same form that payment is made. Please note it may take up to ten (10) business days or more for some refunds depending on type of payment and when refund request was received by the GUCA. GUCA Dues are NOT refundable.

  6. FEES ASSOCIATED WITH MEMBERSHIP LEVELS: Only GUCA members will receive the GUCA member rate. All others will pay the non-member rate. Dues must be current to receive any GUCA benefit such as member rate. Check with the GUCA PRIOR to registering for any class or event to determine your membership level by calling 404-362-9995. Choosing the wrong membership payment level may increase the cost of the class or event. Fees will apply for additional transactions. These fees are non-refundable, non-transferable, or non-negotiable. Choosing the wrong membership fee category for payment will NOT guarantee a confirmed registration for a class or an event. Total class or event fee amounts for any class or event must be paid in advance to receive confirmation.
